Websites
- Doomworld - For anything important that arises in the world of the Doom games (the ones before Doom III, mostly) this is the central source of information. Planet Doom and NewDoom fill the gaps.
- The Best Web Page In The Universe is the website of George Ouzounian, an Armenian pirate who hates many things and has many people who hate him because he hates many things (however those people are wrong by virtue of the fact they disagree with him and he owns the best web page in the universe). He is one of the apogees of manliness; he even wrote a book about it. I regard him as a role model.
- Foobar2000 media player is the audio player I use. What I like about it in comparison to other media players is that it's more upward in terms of functionality - out of the package it's very plain, but it's open enough in its configuration options and plugins to be pimped to your needs. I can't believe I just used the word "pimped".
- Last.fm - One of those newfangled Web 2.0 sites. You build a music profile by downloading the plugin for your audio player which sends the the tracks you play to your account, then Last.fm processes your statistics and recommends other music you might like. Here is my profile.
- Grouphug - A collection of anonymous confessions. I suspect many of them are fake, but it's a good ten-minute diversion when you need it.
- Something Awful - I don't really visit this site much but they do have some funny stuff from time to time. The Photoshop Phriday section has surely saved a number of people from suicide, and the Flash Tub section is most enjoyable if you like watching things that are both disgusting and make no sense.
- Homestar Runner - The home of, among other things, "Teen Girl Squad", the hilarious teen girl culture parody series described by a certain friend of mine as the repository of "half of Josef's vocabulary." Well, maybe not quite half.
- Newgrounds is a huge portal of Flash animations.
- Weebl's Stuff is British Flash animator Jonti Picking's website of things that are awesome, including the Weebl & Bob series of Flash cartoons (over a hundred of them) featuring two verbally unintelligible egg-shaped characters named Weebl and Bob, who may or may not be Jewish.
- Bash.org QDB is a trove of the most classic quotes from IRC channels across the wide universe.
- ISO Hunt is an excellent database of Torrent files. So is The Pirate Bay.
Personal sites
- MYSTing - This is my violinist friend Byron's website, which overall is quite awesome, especially the forums. Byron makes radical things with the
Macromedia Adobe Flash.
- XLAB. - Personal website of Roy Duncan (aka destx), from Tauranga. I met him on IRC, uh... some number of years ago. He likes geeky things and nasty music, and his website is rather manly.
- The blog of Rob Nob Corn Cob - This is my guitarist neighbour Rob's blog.
